Designed and built to sea freight container specifications, the units are robust and sturdy, with all steel construction except for the internal floor, which is timber. A pair of doors are situated at one end of each unit, which have a steel shroud designed to accept a padlock for individual security.

The majority of the units were new when installed at the storage locations, and as such are eminently suitable for dry storage. There can be a small possibility of condensation during frosty weather, and for this reason it is recommended that any soft furnishings be covered with polythene sheeting.
